Reciki Educates the Students of One Earth School about Waste at TPST Samtaku Jimbaran, Bali



Monday 5 December 2022 - To solve waste crisis, it must be carried out from upstream to downstream aspect which include educating the society so that waste problems can be solved properly and will not pollute the environment.

On this day, about 90 or more elementary to high school students from One Earth School along with teachers conducted a study tour to TPST Samtaku Jimbaran in the morning at 8:00 s/d 10:30 WITA. The visit activity was divided into two parts where the elementary students gathered in the education centre while the junior and senior high school students gathered in the outdoor hall of TPST Samtaku Jimbaran.

In the outdoor hall area of TPST, there are two sessions. First, the students gained knowledge about the Waste Management flow of TPST Samtaku Jimbaran from upstream to downstream, how the TPST operates, the final products from the waste, and the positive contributions that have been made by TPST Samtaku. The presentation related to the waste management process of TPST Samtaku Jimbaran was explained by I Made Rudy Swara, the Plant Manager of Pt Reciki Mantap Jaya.

Samtaku Jimbaran TPST is the first largest TPST in Bali which is able to manage waste of 120 tons / day and can serve 45,000 households. This TPST produces products such as composting materials, recycled plastic, RDF, etc.

After the first session, one of the educators from YPCII (Yayasan Pembangunan Citra Insan Indonesia), Ni Luh Ekayani explained about the waste segregation from the source and how important it is for the whole community to sort waste so that it does not accumulate to the landfill or pollute the environment. In the session, Ni Luh Ekayani also explained the types of waste that can be recycled and not. In addition, the students were also given the opportunity to give questions to learn more about waste and waste problems in Indonesia.

YPCII is a partner of Reciki that educates the community within South Kuta area before until after the establishment of TPST Samtaku Jimbaran. The educational program aims to provide knowledge and public awareness of waste issues that damage ecosystems and how to overcome them.

After the presentation in the outdoor hall, the students of were given the opportunity to visit the education center of the TPST.
